Farm Fresh for Kids is reaching out by starting a club at the Davidson Academy of Nevada. Our hope is that by involving other students on the team, FFFK can grow to serve more patients in the Reno area, and benefit even more small-scale farmers.
While the club will work towards expanding the reach of FFFK, it will also explore global health issues caused by social inequalities. Some topics planned for discussion include pharmaceutical companies, health insurance companies and Obama's health care reform, plight of bus and truck drivers throughout the world, as well as maquiladoras in Tijuana and the impact of the NAFTA.
This Health & Social Justice Club is also planning to discuss the state of the US welfare system. The Womens', Infants', and Children's Farmers Market Nutrition Program (WIC FMNP) in particular has a significant positive impact on the problems which FFFK is trying to solve.
